No one on here with half a brain would compre the two .both will always be West Ham legends. I'm fortunate enough to have witnessed both at their best ftom the terraces.

Angry again I see? Don't let me bother you so much.
And yes, Brooking was on another level to Dev, hence his status in the game and number of England caps. Look closer to home before accusing other of talking bollocks. Hope you die, you sack of shit.

Brooking, was class but him and Devonshire were different kinds of players. For my money Devonshire was the better player to say Brooking was on another level is bollocks. They were both excellent players but your lack of knowledge on the subject is no surprise. Only you could compare two West Ham icons and fuck it up. Wanker.

Great player but let's not get carried away, he would never be a 100 mil player today. Brooking was on another level to Dev.

I think it says it all when the likes of Mark Ward and Frank McAvennie say he was the best player they played with and that was "after" his injury. Remember the 4-0 win at Chelsea and I think Dev was the only player who came off the mud bath of a pitch with his kit still white. 100 million today.

Agree with the sentiments here -- great player could beat defenders with ease on gluepot pitches, quick feet, rode mental tackles, unselfish and scored the odd goal and would be worth a ton of money in today's game and we got him for 5 grand !

As a sixty something I saw him many times, what a player. Am I the only one who had teary eyes watching this and reminiscing about what our team was and what it has become. Sullivan has a lot to answer for.

It's ridiculous how few England caps he got. But when Bobby Robson did pick him, it was as an out and out left winger waiting for the ball to come to him. Not his game at all, of course, he liked to roam, pick the ball up deep, and make those mazy runs.

As well as the better pitches he would also be more dangerous in a world where 1970’s style tackling isn’t allowed.

Re the heavy pitches - only used boots with moulded studs as well which is amazing considering the control and balance he had. Went past players easier than any other West Ham player I've seen.
